Tax and Bookkeeping Help for E-commerce and Online Sellers
Selling online on Amazon, Shopify, Etsy, eBay or your own site can grow fast, and the bookkeeping often struggles to keep up. Payouts arrive net of fees and refunds, inventory moves constantly and platforms report your sales to the IRS, so your records need to match.
Raymond G. Kenney, CPA works directly with online sellers, from side businesses to full-time stores. Ray helps you turn platform data into clean books, report income accurately and understand your tax obligations as you grow.
Common Challenges and How Ray Helps
- Form 1099-K reporting. Payment platforms and marketplaces may issue Form 1099-K showing gross payments, which isn't the same as profit. Ray reconciles your 1099-Ks with your actual sales, refunds and fees so your return is accurate.
- Inventory and cost of goods sold. Ray helps you track inventory and calculate cost of goods sold correctly, including product costs, inbound shipping and related costs.
- Platform and selling fees. Marketplace fees, payment processing, advertising and shipping costs add up. Ray makes sure they're recorded and deducted properly.
- Sales tax awareness. Selling into many states can create sales tax obligations, and marketplaces collect it in some cases. Ray can help you understand where you may have obligations so you can decide next steps.
- Bookkeeping and QuickBooks integration. Ray can set up QuickBooks and connect your sales channels so payouts, fees and refunds are recorded consistently, or clean up books that have fallen behind.
- Entity and tax planning. As profits grow, Ray can review entity choice and whether an S-corp election makes sense. See Should Your Business Be an S-Corp?.

Frequently Asked Questions
I got a 1099-K. Is all of that taxable?
Not necessarily. A 1099-K generally reports gross payments before refunds, fees and product costs. You report your sales and then deduct returns, cost of goods sold and business expenses, so good records are important. Reporting thresholds have changed in recent years, so check the current rules.
Do I have to collect sales tax in other states?
It depends. States can require sellers to collect sales tax once they pass that state's economic nexus thresholds, and marketplaces collect on many sales for their sellers. Rules vary by state, so it's worth reviewing where you sell.
Can my sales platforms connect to QuickBooks?
Often, yes. Many platforms connect to QuickBooks directly or through third-party apps. Ray can help set up the connection so sales, fees and refunds are recorded correctly.
