How do I book a free consultation?

What happens after I book?

You'll get a calendar confirmation. During the call, Ray will learn about your situation, explain how he can help, and tell you what he needs from you. There's no obligation to move forward.

What should I send for my tax return?

Usually your W-2s, 1099s, 1098s for mortgage interest, brokerage statements, records of estimated tax payments, and last year's return if you're a new client. Business owners should also send income and expense records or their bookkeeping reports. Ray will send you a list based on your situation.

How are documents shared?

You can send documents by email or through a secure upload link Ray sends you. There's no software to install and no new account to set up.

Is Ray available outside of tax season?

Yes. You can reach Ray by phone or email year-round, Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. Planning, bookkeeping and questions don't stop after April. See year-round tax planning.

When are estimated taxes due?

Federal estimated taxes are generally due in four installments: mid-April, mid-June, mid-September and mid-January of the next year. New York estimated payments generally follow the same schedule. When a due date falls on a weekend or holiday, it moves to the next business day.

What's the difference between a CPA and a tax preparer?

A CPA is licensed by the state after meeting education, exam and experience requirements, and must keep up with continuing education. Many tax preparers have no license. Ray is a licensed New York CPA in practice since 2015 and a member of the AICPA and the NYSSCPA.

Does Ray do bookkeeping and QuickBooks?

Yes. Ray offers monthly bookkeeping, bookkeeping clean-up, and QuickBooks setup and optimization. He also provides virtual CFO services.

What types of returns does Ray prepare?

Ray prepares individual returns, S-corp and C-corp returns, partnership and multi-member LLC returns, trust and estate returns, and not-for-profit returns.

Should my business be an S-corp?

It depends on your profit, a reasonable salary for your role and the added costs. Read Should Your Business Be an S-Corp? for an overview, or book a consultation to look at your numbers.

How long should I keep tax records?

The IRS generally recommends keeping records for at least three years after you file. Some situations call for longer, such as six or seven years in certain cases, and records for property should be kept until the period for the year you sell it has passed. Keep copies of filed returns indefinitely if you can.
